The problem
When a manufacturer keeps quality records as a ledger separate from production itself, two problems follow. The first is delay: by the time a non-conformance is noticed, the batch has already moved on. The second is broken traceability: when a complaint arrives, it is not possible to trace back which batch, which shift and which process was responsible.
The solution: quality records embedded in the process
SKYS takes the quality record out of a separate reporting layer and places it into the steps of the production process. The record is created at the moment and at the place the work is done, which removes the delay and produces backward traceability as a by-product.
Why not an off-the-shelf quality module
Off-the-shelf quality modules are adequate for document and form management. What mattered here was fitting the system to that plant's own production flow: which measurement is taken at which step, who owns the decision on a non-conformance, and at what point a corrective action closes. These are specific to the operation.
